Spotify is a music service very similar to iTunes. Here is how they describe their service, “Any track you like, any time you like. Just search for it in Spotify, then play it. Any artist, any album, any genre – all available instantly. With Spotify, there are no limits to the amount of music you could listen to. Just help yourself to whatever you want, whenever you want it.”
The service is free, with some commercial interruptions, or you can pay and get some added features and no commercials. Sounds good, BUT there is a catch, you can only use this service if you live in the UK. I was able to trick the Spotify site to make it believe that I lived in the UK by using a proxy server called Dave Proxy. I gave it a try for a while, but I am more of a non commercial radio type of person. Having to think of a particular band or person that I want to listen to becomes time consuming while I am at work. After the initial novelty wore off, I did not use it for a while and when I tried it just the other day I discovered that the service somehow figured out that I lived in the US. Perhaps they are now cross referencing the IP addresses.
I really enjoyed Yahoo Music, but that switched to Rhapsody and I have been stuck with it. It is not bad and can be accessed through Tivo.
